VOL Between Two Worlds in Příbram: when education comes to young people

Sunday, March 29th. Příbram. A children's home. And a team that didn't come to lecture — they came to talk.

The Správný start project, led by Jonáš Motyčka, brought another stop of its educational tour to Příbram. VOLONTÉ was there as a partner within the VOL Between Two Worlds project.

The room that started talking

Young people in children's homes are used to adults who arrive with programmes, forms or advice. This was different. The Správný start team came with a video, with stories and with questions — and gradually the room opened up.

At first cautiously. Then more. And eventually came questions no one expected: how to find a part-time job, what to do when you don't know where to turn, how to develop your own hobbies. The young people weren't asking because they had to. They were asking because they wanted to know.

The emotional anchor — a simple but powerful idea

Jonáš Motyčka talks about what he calls an emotional anchor. "They often add me on social media. That way they know I exist — and when the time comes, they reach out," he explains. At the moment when a young person leaves a children's home and finds themselves alone for the first time, they remember a specific face and a project they can turn to.

For children who grow up without a stable family background, this is more than just a contact. It's the certainty that they are not alone.

The best argument? Someone who's been there

The team includes graduates of the Správný start project — young people who have walked a similar path and today speak openly about how it helped them. How they found work. How they sorted out housing. How they took up sport — MMA, for example — and how it helped them find stability.

No presentation can replace that. The moment someone walks into the room and says "I've been in a similar situation", something shifts. The children stop listening and start asking.

Why we were there

The VOL Between Two Worlds project focuses on children in children's homes whose parents are serving a prison sentence. This group is systematically overlooked in the Czech Republic — and until now, no specialised support programme existed for them.

The topics Správný start opens up — money, work, independent life — are a direct part of what we want to build for these children. The activities at the Příbram children's home are funded within the VOL Between Two Worlds project.

Jonáš does it in a way that works: he goes to where the children are, speaks with them as an equal and lets them decide for themselves what they want to know.

And they decided to ask. That's a good start.

Thank you to Jonáš Motyčka and the entire Správný start team for another shared stop. We look forward to the ones ahead.

The VOL Between Two Worlds project (reg. no. CZ.03.02.02/00/24_077/0005465) is implemented through the Employment Plus Operational Programme, co-financed by the European Social Fund and the state budget of the Czech Republic. The project is co-financed by the European Union.
