On 4 and 5 June 2026, the first part of the training course Working with Violence and Emotions took place at the Academy of the Prison Service of the Czech Republic. The course is designed for Prison Service staff.
The opening two-day session was attended by 10 prison employees, including psychologists and therapist-educators. The course was led by Jan Drobný and Monika Farkašová from the organisation LOM, who have long been dedicated to the topics of working with violence, emotions and personal responsibility for one's own behaviour.
The introductory part of the training focused primarily on the fundamentals of working with emotions and managing aggression. Participants explored the recognition of anger signals and other emotions, understanding the connections between emotions and behaviour, and supporting clients' personal responsibility for their own actions. The programme also addressed ways to prevent violent reactions and replace them with safer, non-violent approaches to conflict resolution.
Practical exercises, experience sharing and discussions of specific situations that professionals encounter in their daily work with clients played an important role throughout the session.
Participant feedback was very positive: "We were very satisfied with the first session. The course offers a range of practical insights applicable to work with clients and opens up topics that are highly relevant to our practice. We look forward to the follow-up part of the training and the subsequent supervision, which is an essential component of professional support in the field of working with violence."
The course runs for a total of 24 hours across two two-day sessions. The second part is scheduled for 10 and 11 September 2026, with a final supervision session planned for November 2026.
The aim of the course is to strengthen the professional competencies of staff who encounter clients displaying aggressive or violent behaviour in their practice, and to provide them with effective tools for safe and professional work with this target group.
The course is implemented within the project VOL Bez násilí (reg. no. CZ.03.02.01/00/24_069/0004882). The project is implemented through the Operational Programme Employment Plus, co-financed by the European Social Fund and the state budget of the Czech Republic. The project is co-financed by the European Union.
