From 8 to 12 September 2025, we conducted another retraining course at Nové Sedlo Prison as part of the VOL Comprehensive Employment Program.

The focus was on operating a chainsaw and brush cutter – skills that can support participants not only during their sentence but also after release.

16 incarcerated men learned to:

  • safely operate tools used for mowing, pruning, and cutting small trees,

  • perform maintenance and minor repairs on the equipment.

As Ing. Pavel Procházka, Ph.D. from VOLONTÉ explains:

“There is high interest in this type of retraining – both among men and women. For people without qualifications, it significantly increases their chances of entering the labour market after release.”

Pavel Čejka adds:

“Successfully completing the course can open doors to employment – both during the sentence and after release.”

Courses like this respond to strong demand for practical vocational training directly inside prisons, where VOLONTÉ has been active for many years.

The project “VOL Comprehensive Employment Program”, Reg. No. CZ.03.01.01/00/24_078/0005026, is supported by the Operational Programme Employment Plus, co-financed by the European Social Fund Plus.
