ERASMUS: Work trip to Naples: Together for the support of families of convicts and the integration of ex-prisoners

In the week from 26th to 30th August 2024, we participated together with the non-profit organization Žlutá stužka z.s. in a working trip to Naples, Italy, as part of the international project "Together for greater support for families of convicts", which is co-financed by the European Union under the ERASMUS+ programme.

Together we had the opportunity to share experiences and deepen cooperation aimed at supporting families of convicts and the integration of ex-convicts into society.

The main objective was to meet and share experiences and good practices with our partners from Gramigna OdV, where we discussed challenges and opportunities in the field of social integration and support of convicts and their families - both before and after release from imprisonment. Representatives of other collaborating organisations such as Associazione Monarka and Sbarre di Zucchero also participated in the working meetings, which broadened the range of topics addressed during the visit.

Another important point of our trip was a visit to the social enterprise Caffè dell'Orto, where ex-convicts and migrants are employed. This enterprise works in collaboration with the Fattoria Sociale Orto di Casa Betania farm and the Sale Della Tera organisation. We witnessed how ex-convicts can actively participate in society through employment opportunities, and we also learned about the olive growing and processing process in which the people the organization works with are actively involved.

The highlight of the whole visit was a workshop at the Casa Di Reclusione prison in Eboli, where we discussed how to combat the stigmatization of families of convicts and shared with each other our working experiences with this group, including good practices leading to their successful resocialization and integration into society.

Our cooperation with our Italian partners continues to expand (we have already prepared other joint projects and developed plans), bringing new initiatives and practices to improve the integration of ex-convicts, to support the relationship with the family during imprisonment and to overcome social prejudices.
