VOLONTÉ is launching another of its retraining courses inside prisons. Starting Sunday, 12 October 2025, a new Digital Literacy course will begin at the Hradec Králové Remand Prison, aimed at individuals serving prison sentences. The course is fully funded by the Czech Labour Office and builds on our long-term efforts to provide access to quality education even behind prison walls.
Digital skills as a key to post-release employment
Digital literacy is an essential prerequisite for navigating everyday life and succeeding in the job market. Participants will learn practical skills – from basic computer use, working with email and office software, to managing electronic identities and using the Citizen Portal and Data Mailboxes. A special part of the course is dedicated to cybersecurity and the use of online tools to search for employment.
Education as a path to resocialisation
The course is led by Pavel Rakušan, an instructor VOLONTÉ CZECH:
“We see education for people serving prison sentences as one of the key pathways to successful resocialisation and return to the job market. That’s why we’ve long worked to ensure inmates have access to quality education even while in prison – and in-prison retraining is a vital part of our comprehensive employment programme.”
VOLONTÉ and retraining in the prison system
VOLONTÉ has been active in prisons since 2008 and currently operates in more than 30 prisons across the Czech Republic. The retraining offer includes not only digital literacy courses, but also welding, forklift operation, chainsaw work, and professional qualification programmes. Our aim is to increase inmates’ chances of employment after release and prevent their return to the criminal justice system.
