On 22-28 April 2025, the School Education Centre in Heřmanice hosted an educational course for people in prison called Digital Literacy, which was implemented in cooperation between the School Education Centre and VOLONTÉ CZECH, o.p.s. within the VOL Qualification and Work project reg.no.: CZ.03.01.01/00/23_056/0004021 through the OPZ+ Operational Programme.

In addition to the basics of working on a computer, the course graduates learned practical skills such as setting up a data box, citizen identity, internet banking and became familiar with some state administration portals and communication with authorities.

"These are seemingly simple things that each of us needs in everyday life - logging into a data box, controlling banking or communicating with the authorities. But in prison, this information or skills are often missing. In today's digital age, it is hard to do without them. With this course, we want to help you to socialise successfully and facilitate your return to freedom," says Pavel Rakušan, the course instructor.

Certificates of completion of the programme were handed over to the convicts by the lecturers in the presence of the head of the ŠVS Heřmanice. The convicts commented on the activity as follows:

"On the course, we found out that we missed the train outside and we had to upgrade. The course definitely helped us with that and gave us the information we needed in an easy to understand way. We are glad we were able to try it all out on the simulations."

The Digital Literacy course is one of several training programmes prepared by VOLONTÉ CZECH within the project. Other courses include:

  • Basic PC Operation

  • PC Operation for Beginners

  • Graphic Studio Worker
